To the average homeowner this may look like a good job. We can see insulation and 6mil poly right. Notice how there has been no attempt at air sealing around the poly to the framing members. This house is only 15 years old and was built as a show home by a big name "reputable" Calgary builder.
The holes in the poly have allowed warm air to pass though and freeze to the back of the exterior wall sheathing. This moisture is now causing water issues and mold. Water is the number 1 killer of houses.
Insulation and vapour/air sealing aren't the glamourus parts of building to most people but these are the important things that insure your home will last and be healthy to live in.
Make sure your builder or renovator isnt just selling you the fancy tile and countertop but also understands the science involved in building a home!
